Happy Earth Day! 🌎

We’re seeing the effects of climate change firsthand—from rising sea levels to record-breaking temperatures—and we need to do everything we can at all levels of government to mitigate these effects and build a more sustainable future for Marylanders.

In the Office of the Comptroller, we’ve been considering the impact of climate change on our economy. To this end, we hired a Climate Resilience Director to help lead our efforts within the agency, guide our teams in reporting on building resiliency and sustainability, and treat climate change as a serious investment risk.

Our agency also released the next report in our State Spending Series today, which examines the cost of climate change in Maryland. You can also see our press conference here!

This Earth Day, I remain committed to making well-informed decisions that protect our state’s environment and natural resources for generations to come.
