[Elevating Voices for Long-Lasting Change - April 28 at 3 pm ET]([link removed])

On Monday, April 28, at 3 p.m. ET, tune in for "Suicide Prevention in the Deaf Community," the newest episode of our Elevating Voices for Long-Lasting Change series. In this important conversation, AFSP Vice President for Health Equity and Engagement Victor (Vic) Armstrong, MSW, talks with two suicide loss survivors about their experiences in the Deaf Community, and what steps can be taken to improve suicide prevention efforts for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing people. The panel discussion will consider:

- What barriers exist for a Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing person when facing a mental health emergency like a suicidal crisis or surviving a suicide loss?
- What would make crisis services more accessible for Deaf individuals
- How is the experience of a Deaf person navigating loss support resources different from that of a hearing person?
- Are there any specific strategies for recognizing the warning signs of suicidal thinking for a Deaf individual?
- How have resources such as 988 resonated with the Deaf Community?
- What is the unique impact of suicide on the Deaf Community?

Panelists include:

Jada Johnson is a Deaf mom, born and raised in Minnesota, who lost her 23-year-old son Che to suicide on November 20, 2016.

Tarra Grammenos is an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter and suicide prevention educator. She was born and raised in Minnesota, and lost her 18-year-old brother Logan to suicide on March 31, 2017.

We hope you’ll join us for this important discussion on Monday, April 28, at 3 p.m. ET!
