John, we cannot allow ourselves to be desensitized to headlines like this one:
This should not be our normal. We should not fear for our lives every time that we go to school in this country. But the United States is one of the only places in the world where this phenomenon keeps happening. And our leaders are failing us.
Just three weeks ago, Florida Republicans voted to repeal gun safety measures that we won after the tragedy at Parkland – even as school shootings continue.
In the Oval Office, reporters asked President Trump about what was at the time an active shooting. He called the shooting “a shame” and “a horrible thing” before adding: “Things like this take place.” In other words, don’t expect any action. It’s disgusting that we have moved on from “thoughts and prayers” to “I don’t care.”
It’s enraging that this keeps happening, in Florida and everywhere else. We can’t accept it – we have to keep fighting for the life-saving policy changes needed in Florida and across the country before more people are senselessly slaughtered.
As someone who experienced a shooting at my high school, I want to help create a world where no one has to live through what my community had to back in 2018. And clearly, that means replacing the do-nothing dinosaurs running this country.
Together, we can elect the next generation of leaders who won’t cower before the gun lobby, but will fight for meaningful gun reform legislation to keep us all safe.
I want to personally thank everyone who is standing with us in this fight. Lives are literally hanging in the balance – that’s how important our work really is, John.
