It’s the first day of Earth Week 2025, culminating on Earth Day, April 22. This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet”, encouraging people across the globe to unite in collective power. We need leaders who will fight to protect our planet and take bold action to mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis on our communities and our families.

Here are just a few Vote Mama moms who are doing exactly that:

• California Assemblymember Dawn Addis is joining lawmakers from nearly a dozen states to advocate for “climate Superfund” legislation that holds Big Oil accountable for the growing costs of climate-related disasters. These “polluter pays” bills would require major fossil fuel companies — whose emissions have significantly contributed to the climate crisis — to fund recovery efforts. Backed by scientific data linking corporate emissions to environmental harms, this movement aims to shift the financial burden from taxpayers to the companies most responsible.
• Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) has reintroduced the SOS Farms Act to improve crop insurance access for small farms, which often struggle with policies designed for large commercial operations and Big Ag businesses. Supporting small farms not only strengthens local economies and food systems but also benefits the environment through sustainable practices, reduced emissions, and enhanced biodiversity.
• As a member of Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives’ Environmental and Natural Resource Protection Committee, PA State Rep. Carol Kazeem is championing a bill that would require businesses to submit an environmental impact report before receiving permits — taking into account not just their own footprint but the total pollution in affected areas. The bill aims to protect climate justice areas where overlapping environmental and socioeconomic burdens pose heightened risks to vulnerable communities.

When we endorse moms, they must take our Vote Mama candidate pledge to ensure their values align with ours — and one of the pillars is: Create urgency around climate justice and passing environmental protections. That's how we know our mamas will work to defend our planet from corporate greed and fight for climate action: because they know how critical it is to build a sustainable planet for our kids and future generations.
