MONTANA HONORS BLACK LIVES WITH THE BIGGEST RALLY IN OUR HISTORY. TOGETHER WE COMMIT TO ACTION FOR RACIAL JUSTICE AND EQUALITY.

Bozeman United for Racial Justice. Video: Share Productions

Growing up in Bozeman I never dreamed I would see the day when 5,000 people - over 10% of our town - would gather in support of racial justice. Protests in large and small towns across Montana gathered to demand change, to learn, and to commit to justice, equality and action for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPoC). In Bozeman alone, over 30 businesses signed the Freedom Pledge committing to anti-racism.

In my remarks I stressed that money is power, and called on white people to invest in BIPoC individuals and BIPoC-led organizations. A first step is to support the organizations that made this historic event possible: Bozeman United for Racial Justice, MSU Black Student Union and Montana Racial Equity Project.

Commit to action, donate to support the Montana Racial Equity Project!
"I was told that when you are born your breath is a right, not a privilege. You have the right to your breath and that's why we are here. We want to stand up for all our black brothers and sisters who have had their breath taken away wrongfully. We are not asking for change we are demanding change. We are telling our lawmakers you have got to respect every breath.

As Dr. Doyle shared, our breath is our right. At We Are Montana, we agree. Health is a right, and we are honored to collaborate with rural and Native leaders across Montana to ensure lawmakers respect that right, and are held accountable to providing accessible, quality healthcare to all our families, regardless of race, wealth or health status. Now is the time to look deeply at all systems that have been built to reinforce injustice and inequality.
