Donald Trump is once again trying to tell New Yorkers what we can and can’t do.

He recently signed an executive order targeting New York, California, and Vermont — directing the Justice Department to block the enforcement of our state environmental laws. Let me be clear: he’s trying to take away New York’s right to protect our planet.

I’m not letting that happen.

As Governor, I’ve made it clear that New York will lead the fight against climate change — not sit on the sidelines. That’s why I co-chair the U.S. Climate Alliance, and it’s why I’ll continue to defend our state’s laws, our progress, and our people from federal overreach. We are a nation of laws — and of states. And no president can take that away.

Trump may believe he can silence the states that don’t bend to his agenda — but he’s wrong about New York. We don’t back down. Not when our clean air and water are at stake. Not when our children’s future is on the line.
