Fellow activist,
Today is Earth Day! In celebration of our beautiful Mother Earth, we want to take a moment to remind you that when we vote, we, the people, are casting our ballots for a healthier future in Pennsylvania.
Did you know that Pennsylvania residents are guaranteed the right to clean air, pure water, and the preservation of the environment in our state constitution? Article I, Section 27 of the PA Constitution, known as the Environmental Rights Amendment (ERA), asserts:
“The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment."
This year, among other critical races, three PA Supreme Court justices will be up for retention voting. The outcome of the PA Supreme Court election could shift the court's balance, directly influencing decisions on environmental policies and enforcement.
Here are some recent examples: The Pennsylvania Supreme Court moved to reinforce the ERA, ensuring that state actions align with environmental protection mandates. Additionally, the court granted environmental groups the right to intervene in cases affecting greenhouse gas regulations, amplifying community voices in environmental governance. Both of these critical decisions will impact the environment for years to come.
Pennsylvania's judiciary plays a pivotal role in upholding our constitutional right to a healthy environment, from air and water quality and public health to conservation efforts. Now, it’s up to us to ensure that voters know what’s at stake in the upcoming elections →
NPP continues to engage our centered communities around the importance of a fair and independent state and federal judiciary. We remind voters of the power of their vote, especially when it comes to electing leaders who will advocate for a healthier future for our communities. In honor of Earth Day, join us in these efforts by rushing $22 or more now. As a reminder, all donations between now and the end of the month will be DOUBLED thanks to a generous angel donor.
