Hi John,
Tomorrow, one of our priority bills, HB 3546 A [[link removed]] — the POWER Act [[link removed]], is up for a vote on the House floor. The POWER Act, championed by Representative Marsh, is here to tackle the growing demand and rising cost for energy across the state, mainly due to the strain large energy users like data centers and other big tech are putting on the energy system. Large energy users are paying less, although they are using more energy, and burdening Oregon households with the cost. It’s time to hold them accountable with the POWER Act!
Do you have a moment to ask your legislators to yes on the POWER Act? [[link removed]]
In the past few years, Oregon households have seen their energy bill increase up to 50%, and are sometimes paying even more than twice as much as large energy users. The POWER Act will hold these large energy users accountable by instating policies that create a different category of customer for data centers, cryptocurrency, and other big tech. That way utilities can ensure that large energy users are paying their share, and in turn protecting Oregon households and businesses from shouldering the costs. Not only this, but the POWER Act will also require utility companies to be transparent about the costs that large energy users are adding to the grid, as another measure to ensure that they are paying their way.
It’s unfair that Oregon households and businesses pay the cost that these large energy users impose on our grid. The POWER Act is here to protect Oregonians. Take action for the passage of this bill today, before the vote tomorrow [[link removed]]!
Sincerely,
