Have you seen this update, John?
[NPR, 4/21/25]
Today, a group of House Democrats — including two EMILYs List women, Rep. Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) and Rep. Maxine Dexter (OR-03) — are in El Salvador, demanding the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongfully deported and is now imprisoned in a brutal foreign facility.
Despite a unanimous ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court ordering his return, Donald Trump has refused to comply.
The Trump administration is acting like it's above the law — but EMILYs List women are fighting back.
We're proud to stand with Reps. Ansari and Dexter as they lead the charge against this blatant authoritarian overreach.
Thanks for being in this fight with us,
the EMILYs List team
Last week, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a unanimous 9-0 ruling: The Trump administration must facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongfully deported and sent to a dangerous prison in El Salvador.
Donald Trump and his top advisers have refused.
This is not a policy disagreement. This is ignoring the highest court in our land — a brazen rejection of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the balance of power that we all learned about in middle school civics.
Trump is showing us that he thinks he's above the law.
But like every bully and tinpot dictator, he only wins if we give up. And that's not us.
EMILYs List is committed to electing pro-choice, pro-democracy women up and down the ballot and across the country. As we build state centers of power, one focus is the courts — they're becoming the last line of defense against the tyranny of this administration. And we can win. Look at Justice-elect Sarah Crawford beating back Elon Musk's millions in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election this month.
We're fighting to elect women at every level who will uphold our rights, protect our freedoms, and push back against authoritarian overreach.
