Hi there,
I wanted to give you a quick update this morning.
Democrats have turned out in record numbers in Tuesday’s primary and reports today suggest more than 30,000 absentee and provisional votes remain uncounted in the 7th district. Every vote must be counted. We will update you soon as we know more in the coming days.
I am very grateful for the support the campaign received from across this district, from people of all backgrounds and walks of life. Through Zoom meet-ups, virtual town halls, and pre-pandemic community events, one of the best parts about this race has been hearing the stories and concerns of Georgians who believe deeply that we need to address deep and long-standing inequities, to protect our health care, and to get our economy back on its feet.
While the Democratic turnout was a highlight of election day, we also witnessed yet another tragic example of our state’s failure to administer safe, fair and efficient elections. There is no excuse for this. Poorly-run elections suppress votes, silence voices, and erode confidence in our most vital institutions. Our state leaders must be held accountable and take immediate action to restore confidence in our voting systems.
The stakes of this election couldn’t be higher. Rich McCormick is an extreme Republican voice who pledged to
repeal the entirety of the Affordable Care Act, threatening health care for the
more than 355,000 Georgians in the 7th District with pre-existing conditions. This crisis has made clear that we have a growing divide in this country in terms of access to health care and access to opportunity, and Rich McCormick would strip away health care coverage and would give more undeserved handouts to corporate elites.
It’s time for our party to come together and go into November united against a Republican party that has lost its moral bearings, and I’m honored to once again be the top Democratic candidate in the 7th District.
Sincerely,
Carolyn
