The most recent Gallup data on the subject reveals that almost two-thirds of Americans think laws covering the sale of firearms should be made more strict than they are now.
You’d think this would translate into a legislative victory for commonsense gun reform advocates and a sharp reduction in the spate of mass shootings we’ve seen over the past decade -- it hasn’t.
For that discrepancy, we have largely the NRA to blame. The organization, which does not disclose its member lists or its financial records, has been a shadowy spectre that has haunted the halls of Congress for decades. The NRA has spent untold millions against near-universally-approved measures like expanded background checks and drowned out the protests of everyday Americans in dark money.
But there is a solution: supporting grassroots gun reform advocacy. By banding together to support a coalition of gun reform champions, hold Republicans accountable for their dark money donors, and kick the NRA out of Congress, we can finally build a world that’s safer for everyone.
