John,

Trivia time: Guess which U.S. President founded the Environmental Protection Agency.

If you said President Richard Nixon, you are correct, and also I bet you’re good at trivia night because that’s a deep cut. Let’s pause for a moment and reflect on the fact that the EPA was founded by a Republican president, just months after the first-ever Earth Day in April 1970. My, how times have changed.

Fast forward 55 years, and President Trump, Elon Musk, and their MAGA henchmen are decimating this once bipartisan agency that had an incalculable positive impact on our public health.

They’re indiscriminately firing scientists, loosening regulations on clean air, water, waste disposal, and more. And they’re celebrating the destruction. (Trump’s EPA Administrator Zeldin — who has zero public health experience by the way — recently cheered “the greatest day of deregulation our nation has seen.”)

The EPA’s core mission is to protect the public’s health and the environment. Tell me, who, other than corporations and the people who profit from them, could possibly argue that gutting the agency that protects our clean air, water, and land is a good idea?

You know I’m a strong advocate for our environment and taking action to secure clean jobs and transportation, cleaning up toxic waste sites, and keeping our families safe. If you think Trump’s actions to gut the EPA are as disgusting as I do, please instantly add your name here to let me know. [[link removed]]ADD YOUR NAME [[link removed]]

It’s Earth Week, so it’s a good time to reflect on the history of environmental protection in our country. And that history shows us exactly what happens without EPA protections: people get sick. Instantly add your name now if you believe environmental protection should be bipartisan >> [[link removed]]

Thank you,

Mary Gay
