The path to work, wages, and wealth can look different for everybody.
Maryland has world-class colleges and universities. But for many, there’s a myth that you have to attend a traditional four-year institution to be successful.
That wasn’t the path I followed. I got my start at Valley Forge Military Academy, which was a turning point in my life. At first it was hard, but the structure and responsibility I encountered there led me to a career in public service. That led to further studies at Johns Hopkins, then Oxford, and then to leading soldiers in combat in Afghanistan.
John, careers can take all sorts of different paths. That’s why we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach to realizing economic opportunity in Maryland.
This month, I signed the RAISE Act into law — to create opportunity for both employees and employers to succeed.
The RAISE Act invests in apprenticeships to give Marylanders of all ages options for great, well-paying careers. It means more skilled workers, more job opportunities, and a stronger workforce.
No matter the path folks take in their lives, our administration is prioritizing building more economic opportunities for them — and a stronger Maryland.
Elevate,
Wes
