SBE WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS IN APRIL MEETING

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming State Board of Education will welcome two new members in April. Lisa Williams from Lusk - representing District #6, and Casey Tillard from Glenrock - representing District #7 have been appointed by Governor Mark Gordon and confirmed by the Senate.

The Wyoming State Board of Career and Technical Education (SBCTE) will meet virtually at 9 a.m. on April 24. The SBCTE will receive results of public comments and take action on the recommended Perkins State Plan performance indicators. Following adjournment of the SBCTE meeting, the board will convene the SBE meeting.

The SBE is considering action on multiple agenda items, including approval of a vendor for the statewide English Language Proficiency Assessment. This state assessment is required as part of the statewide assessment system for students with limited English proficiency. The board will also take action on proposed meeting dates for 2025/26, consider district requests for changes to teacher evaluation systems, and take action on district applications for alternative school schedules.

The Professional Teaching Standards Board will present to the board on teacher certification and efforts to increase teacher endorsements for student work based learning opportunities. SBE member Fred von Ahrens and Eric Carmin Murray will share their experience as industry leaders in opening mentorship opportunities for students in the Rock Springs area.

The Wyoming Department of Education will present on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) results, a progress update on English Language Arts standards, and plans for the review and revision of Career and Technical Education standards.
