Easyjet, British Airways and Rolls Royce (to name just a few!) - not only are these companies choking our planet, many don’t treat their staff fairly either. They hand their CEOs millions and give their underpaid staff no say over how the company’s run. Several have laid off thousands of workers even after accepting the Bank’s bailout money. [3]
Last week Prime Minister Boris Johnson said "We owe it to future generations to build back better, and base our recovery on solid foundations, including a fairer, greener, and more resilient global economy." While the Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey said “The world must seize this opportunity to meet the climate challenge.” [4]
But neither of them are putting their money where their mouths are. In fact they’re handing it straight to fossil fuel companies and big polluters. This hypocrisy needs to stop.
Positive Money is a people-powered movement demanding a better money and banking system that puts people and our planet first. Over the last 10 years, thousands of us have worked together to push this up the political agenda. It’s clear the most powerful people can hear us. But now we need their actions, not just words.
The climate emergency gets more urgent every day. We must seize every opportunity we can to make sure our recovery from this crisis builds a fairer and greener society. John, please will you add your voice to our call? Please will you sign the petition in 20 seconds now?
