MAGA mayor wants to "purge" homeless population with all the "free fentanyl they want"
Republican Mayor R. Rex Parris of Lancaster, California, went on the record with his desire for the White House to institute a federal "purge," where cities could legally distribute free fentanyl to homeless populations across America. Given the chance to walk back or better explain his comments, Parris doubled down, stating, "Quite frankly, I wish that the president would give us a purge. Because we do need to purge these people, Now, is it harsh? Of course it’s harsh. But it’s my obligation as the mayor of the city of Lancaster to protect the hardworking families that live there, and I am no longer able to do it." Seriously. This is MAGA, folks. This is what we're up against.

Trump goes off the rails with public Easter meltdown light on Jesus and heavy on rage
The very stable and in no way worm-addled president of the United States once again used the holiest day of the religion he ostensibly follows as an excuse to rant and rave about his many political enemies, pushing dangerous and completely baseless conspiracy theories and attacking the judiciary for putting very reasonable checks on his efforts to wield tyrannical power. So Christ-like!

Marine veteran answers call to resist Trump
JoAnna Mendoza for Congress: JoAnna Mendoza served our country for twenty years as a drill sergeant in the United States Marines, training the brave men and women who defend our country overseas, and now she’s ready to defend our nation from Donald Trump’s extremism in the halls of Congress. As a lifelong public servant, JoAnna refuses to sit idly by while Donald Trump and Elon dismantle the systems that provide for our veterans after their service and send countless more vets to the unemployment line with their gutting of the federal government. Will you chip in to help Joanna flip this winnable red seat and take back control of Congress from the GOP?
Pope Francis, groundbreaking Jesuit pontiff, dies aged 88 — day after meeting with JD Vance
Revered the world over, the 88-year-old Jesuit pontiff from Argentina shattered the modern mold for popes with an unapologetic emphasis on lifting up the downtrodden and embracing marginalized peoples, leading the Catholic Church for a dozen transformative years. During his papacy he advocated tirelessly for a kinder, more tolerant world — with a pointed emphasis on caring for immigrants — and met with hundreds of world leaders and emissaries alike, including most recently JD Vance. Hours after speaking with the vice president, a man who stood in steadfast opposition to nearly every key tenet of his life and papacy, Francis died.
Pete Hegseth reportedly shared secret attack details with wife and brother in second Signal group chat
Unsurprisingly, Pete Hegseth's Signal fiasco, where he divulged classified military operations in a frickin' group chat that accidentally included a journalist for The Atlantic, is even worse than originally thought. Turns out ol' Pete had another group chat going with his wife and brother where he ALSO DISCUSSED the planned attacks on Yemen. These messages included the flight schedules for the F/A-18 Hornets, which is obviously classified information. Senate Democrats once again began immediately demanding the former Fox News talking head's resignation. While we're tempted to crack jokes about Hegseth's astounding ineptitude, the fact is this airstrike, like the one that followed weeks later, resulted in mass civilian casualties, and, well, war crimes aren't funny.

House Democrats land in El Salvador, demand Abrego Garcia's return
A group of four Democrats have followed Sen. Van Hollen to El Salvador to push for the release of the Maryland father who was "accidentally" incarcerated in the notorious CECOT prison camp. "While Donald Trump continues to defy the Supreme Court, Kilmar Abrego Garcia is being held illegally in El Salvador after being wrongfully deported," Rep. Robert Garcia (no relation) said. "That is why we're here — to remind the American people that kidnapping immigrants and deporting them without due process is not how we do things in America." Hear, hear.
GOP senator vows Abrego is "never coming back" to the US "ever"
Louisiana Republican John Kennedy appeared on NBC's Meet the Press and poured cold water on the prospect that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man mistakenly deported to a notorious Salvadoran gulag in March, would ever return to the United States and reunite with his wife and three children. Kennedy's segment followed Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen's appearance, where he spoke of his face-to-face visit with Abrego Garcia just days before and advocated for his swift return. Kennedy opined, "Well, Chris is my friend. And I respect him. And he’s certainly entitled to his opinion. But in my judgment, he is utterly and gloriously wrong." No big deal. Just a sitting US senator rubber-stamping the disappearing of legal residents from the country without due process.
AOC seizes the moment as Democrats seek a new identity
Still stinging from Kamala Harris' defeat in November and with poll numbers pointing to historically low public approval across the board, Democrats are understandably scrambling for a new identity. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is racing to fill that vacuum with a party rooted in Sen. Bernie Sanders' left-wing populism. And while it feels to many top Democrats like she's grabbing Sanders' torch as a progressive leader — and that he's intentionally passing it to her — the two kindred spirits deny it. The pair have embarked on a string of rallies, however, drawing tens of thousands of supporters to hear their unapologetically progressive message — even in deep red states. Will establishment Democrats take heed? Will they actually embrace a new generation of leadership? Time will soon tell.
Top Pentagon spokesperson quits, then drops "bombshell" warning about Pete Hegseth
The hits keep coming for Trump DUI hire Pete Hegseth, whose abysmal tenure at the Pentagon could be coming to a swift, unceremonious end. John Ullyot, a longtime Trump ally who resigned last week as chief Pentagon spokesperson, warned in an opinion piece for POLITICO that even more “bombshell” stories about Hegseth and the Defense Department are about to drop and predicted the embattled Defense secretary will soon be out of a job. "It’s been a month of total chaos at the Pentagon," Ullyot wrote.
As legal fight raged, ICE buses filled with Venezuelans heading toward airport turned around, video shows
Video from Friday night shows Immigration and Customs Enforcement buses full of Venezuelan migrants headed toward an airport in North Texas and abruptly turning around before the Supreme Court ruled the Trump administration must, for now, refrain from deporting Venezuelan men based in the state under the Alien Enemies Act. At least 28 detainees — most, if not all, understood to be Venezuelan nationals — were placed on buses Friday evening at ICE’s Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, Texas, and driven toward Abilene Airport, about 30 miles away. The motorcade left the ICE facility, with some men on board being told they were being deported to El Salvador and some that they were headed to Venezuela, according to the wife of one of the detainees and two lawyers representing other detainees at the facility. Before they departed, it was not clear what their destinations would be. The video, obtained exclusively by NBC News, shows the ICE motorcade pass the airport’s exit and then turn around, looping back to return to the Bluebonnet detention facility.

Doom and doomer
Meanwhile, elsewhere
