Donald Trump‘s move toward oligarchy and authoritarianism has created an unprecedented moment in modern American history.

Friends -

Donald Trump‘s move toward oligarchy and authoritarianism has created an unprecedented moment in modern American history. We must respond in an unprecedented way. Status quo politics is not good enough. We need to elect candidates all over this country who have the guts not only to stand up to Trumpism, but to take on the monied interests and fight for a working class that has been ignored for far too long.

One of those candidates is our friend Abdul El-Sayed who last week announced he was running for the open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.

Abdul was not only a supporter of our presidential campaign, but he is a a physician who understands that our current health care system is broken and wildly expensive. He understands that health care is a human right, which is why he supports Medicare for All. In fact, he wrote an excellent book on that subject.

He understands that we have a corrupt campaign finance system which allows billionaires and Super PACs to buy and sell politicians. As a U.S. Senator he will vigorously fight to end the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision which allows Big Money to control our political process and move to public funding of elections.

He understands that too many workers in America are earning starvation wages. He will fight to raise the minimum wage to a living wage, make it easier for workers to join unions and build the low income and foldable housing this country desperately needs.

Abdul has not only been a supporter of our presidential campaigns and the political revolution, but he has served in a number of important public health positions in the state of Michigan where he was born and raised. He has real-life experience as the executive director of the Detroit Health Department and was formerly an assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University. He is also experienced politically. In 2018, starting way back, he ran a strong grassroots campaign for governor in the Democratic primary and came close to winning.

But if Abdul is going to win, it's important that he gets off to a strong start, and he needs our help to do that. So I am asking you to donate to Abdul's campaign -- $27 or whatever you can afford:

$27 because Abdul will be the kind of progressive voice we need in the Senate if we are going to stand up to Trump, protect our democratic way of life and create an economy that works for working families – not just the rich.

$27 because Abdul will be taking on not just Republicans, not just corporate interests but the Democratic establishment as well, especially as he starts to gain support in this race.

$27 because we are all in this together, and Abdul needs us now if he is going to win this race.

Please make a contribution of $27, or whatever you can afford today, directly to Abdul El-Sayed's U.S. Senate campaign in Michigan. I am very proud to support him in this race, and I hope you will as well.
