Dear John,

In another deliberate attack on justice and due process, the Trump administration is terminating funding for the Immigrant Court Helpdesk (ICH) at the Chicago Immigration Court. For many people, this is their only chance to speak with legal professionals and get legal information before they defend themselves in court.

For over a decade, the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) has staffed the Helpdesk and been a lifeline for unrepresented immigrants. Often the Helpdesk is the only source of support for people facing a deliberately complex system. Our team has provided free legal information, advice, and help preparing court documents to people who are confused, traumatized, and alone. These services help ensure that children, families, and adults understand the proceedings they face.

The administration’s contempt for immigrants and the rule of law is clear. But NIJC will not back down. We need you with us.

Without your support, NIJC will be forced to drastically cut services. But we refuse to abandon the thousands of people we serve.

Last year, the ICH assisted more than 2,000 individuals and families—including a young Colombian family who fled death threats and violence for speaking out against corruption. With ICH's help, they overcame an initial denial and were granted asylum in court. This is what’s at stake.

NIJC and our partners have filed litigation to challenge these funding cuts—but we urgently need your support to continue fighting in the courts and at the front lines.

Donate today to double your impact! NIJC’s Board of Directors and Leadership Council are matching all donations up to $56,000 through April 30. Give your emergency donation now: https://immigrantjustice.org/EmergencyFund.

Your support helps protect due process and ensure immigrants are not forced to face the complex system alone.

Every dollar counts. Every person matters.

With gratitude,
