Your support builds healthier and stronger communities

Good hygiene is one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of diseases like coronavirus and importantly, it saves lives.

With your support, just last year we were able to share the importance of sanitation and hygiene with over 700,000 people in rural Africa.

WASH, or Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, is an integral part of every Send a Cow project. It helps people stay healthy and so they can adopt the training in agriculture, gender equality and enterprise we are better known for.

Meet Violet

Violet is a Community Health Volunteer in Kenya. Violet visits* 100 households in her community to deliver important health advice and information.

Without amazing people like Violet, our WASH work would not be possible. She plays a vital role is keeping families safe and healthy.

When it comes to improving hygiene and sanitation in the home, some of the simplest solutions are the most effective.

  • drying rack made from local materials helps keep cooking utensils and crockery off the ground so that they can dry in the sun. This keeps them safe from harmful bacteria on the floor.

  • A tip tap, a handwasher made from recycled materials, ensures families can easily wash their hands by simply pressing a lever with their foot.

  • A clean and safe toilet is essential in preventing the spread of disease. With improved access to a latrine, families can stay healthy.

Your support helps provide the skills and knowledge families need to build these life-changing structures. This ensures they can protect themselves, their families, friends and neighbours against the spread of disease.

This is now more important than ever. Thank you for the part you have already played in this life-saving work.

* Visits will be monitored and stopped if necessary, during the coronavirus outbreak. We are adapting the way we work to ensure that our vital training can continue.
