First, we have the economy. Years of unchecked spending and slow economic growth created the budget problem we faced and we’re turning that around. We turned a $3 billion deficit into a surplus. We made cuts where we had to and made historic investments in education, childcare, and public safety. 94% of Marylanders received a tax cut or no change at all, ensuring that middle-class Marylanders get a break as prices rise for things like groceries and housing. We now have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. Second, we have the federal government. Trump is making a mess of Washington, and it’s hurting Maryland. His governance is performative, illegal, and ineffective. Trump laid off countless public servants, hurting them and their families. They’re threatening anyone who stands up against injustice. The state of our current federal government is cruel. It is unusual. It is unconstitutional. Look, John, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution to our problems. We need to find our power, whether that be through protest or policy.
