streets of Washington, D.C., for his birthday.

This is the stuff of dictatorships, not democracies—and we need to act

aren't celebrations—they're threats. Trump's reported plan would turn
American troops into political props, staging a demonstration of his
personal power.

History shows democracies erode gradually, through symbols, signals, and
unchecked vanity projects like this one. Trump co-opting the 250th
anniversary of the U.S. Army is a dangerous appropriation of our nation's
military symbols for his own glorification.
