Oklahoma,

Today is a heartbreaking date in the history of our state. It's the 30-year anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The attack claimed the lives of 168 people and injured hundreds more, but it did not claim the soul of our state and the values that inspired the 'Oklahoma Standard.' This week, we focused on prayers for the families of the federal employees, business men and women, children, first responders, and civilians lost 30 years ago.

Today, on April 19, 1995, Oklahoma was the victim of the largest homegrown terrorist attack ever on our nation's soil. Please join Christie and me in praying and remembering the victims of this horrific act of violence that forever changed families across the Sooner State. As we know, out of this devastating tragedy came what we now know as the ‘Oklahoma Standard’ — neighbors helping neighbors, and the values of honor, service, and kindness that embody the spirit of Oklahoma. Every day that we live by the Oklahoma Standard, we honor all those affected by the violence on that fateful day.

On Wednesday, Team Mullin attended the 41st Christian Business Men's Connection's (CBMC) Metro Prayer Breakfast at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. The event, which took place just three days before the anniversary of the bombing, centered around uniting Oklahoma City in powerful prayer and reflecting on those impacted by the tragic event that Wednesday in 1995. This morning and every day, we remember those affected by this tragedy and pledge to continue embodying the 'Oklahoma Standard' in all that we do.

"30 years ago, Oklahoma experienced the worst act of terrorism our nation had ever seen at the time, and since then, we're still recovering, we're still putting pieces together.

"But at the time, we saw a state come together that we now call the 'Oklahoma Standard.'

"First responders from all over the state, and really all over the nation, came together at the time in Oklahoma City and helped put some of the pieces back together.

"But one thing we learned is that healing comes through prayer. And so I pray that you continue to pray for those families that were affected. Pray for the city that's still honestly 30 years later still putting together the pieces.

"And as always, pray for our nation. Because as our nation, we need to learn from the past and try to make sure it never happens in the future.

"May God bless you, and may God bless the United States of America."

Members of the Oklahoma Congressional delegation and I left a piece of history from Oklahoma in Washington before we left town. Last Monday, we joined survivors and family members of the victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing in a Commemorative Survivor Tree Dedication Ceremony on the United States Capitol Grounds. The tree is a sapling from Oklahoma City's famed Survivor Tree. For those who may not know, the Survivor Tree is an American elm tree that sat at ground zero during the attack. It witnessed the bombing firsthand. However, like the spirit of Oklahoma, it endured and survived. She now stands as a symbol of hope and perseverance to everyone passing by.
