In what Rolling Stone calls “an open assault on free elections,” anti-voter extremists have launched a multi-pronged attack on our democracy:

1. The U.S. House of Representatives just passed the SAVE Act, which could disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans — especially low-income people, seniors, rural voters, and communities of color — by forcing voters to prove their citizenship with costly documents like passports and birth certificates. It’s a modern poll tax, and it isn’t subtle. Forget dog whistles — this is a siren.

2. As a potential backstop if the SAVE Act doesn’t get through the U.S. Senate, legislators have introduced similar bills in at least 21 states since the beginning of 2024 — and gotten them signed into law in Louisiana, New Hampshire, and Wyoming.

So while we work to stop the SAVE Act in the Senate — we’ve already reached out to 200,000 Americans, urging them to contact their Senators and demand a NO vote — we must also keep pushing back against the broader onslaught of voter suppression that it represents.

And we’re counting on this grassroots team to continue powering the fight for the freedom to vote.

Fight back against voter suppression by rushing a donation of any amount right now. [[link removed]]

If the SAVE Act becomes law, we could see more mass voter purges without appropriate guardrails.

It would also effectively end mail-in and online voter registration as well as third-party registration drives.

And it would target:
Black and Latino voters, who disproportionately register to vote through third-party registration efforts
Young voters, who are less likely to have the documents to prove citizenship required by the bill
As many as 69 million women nationwide who’ve changed their names and can’t use their birth certificate to prove their citizenship

Our leaders should be protecting the freedom to vote, not trying to cling to power by restricting it.

But if they won’t defend voting rights, we will. Pitch in a donation of any amount to help stop anti-voter legislation and ensure equal access to the ballot box. [[link removed]]
