Hi John, Have you heard the news? IJM’s Advocacy Summit is back! Mark your calendars for Sept. 9-10, 2025 – we need your voice more than ever. This two-day event in Washington, D.C., is an opportunity to come together with other justice advocates and ask your elected officials to prioritize legislation that combats human trafficking and violence. You may be thinking, “I don’t know how to be an advocate!” But if you care about protecting people in poverty from trafficking and violence, we’re here to tell you – you already are an advocate! Meeting face-to-face with policy influencers is one of the best ways to use your voice. And we’ll be with you every step of the way. On Day 1, experts will teach us more about IJM’s work, some of the best ways to make our voices heard and more about the legislative focus for Lobby Day. On Day 2, we put it into practice, meeting with congressional offices on Capitol Hill alongside fellow advocates from your home state. From industry research and our own advocacy experience, we know that face-to-face meetings with members of Congress and their staff are one of the most powerful tactics to move legislation. In 2019, our advocacy for a critical bill addressing violence against women and children in Latin America helped secure 10 additional Senate cosponsors (i.e., members who are willing to put their name on the bill to show their support). Following the 2023 Advocacy Summit, we saw significant congressional movement in child online safety policies, including a bill signed into law that included several of the same terms as our target bill. Will you join us in D.C. this September to make this Advocacy Summit the most successful yet? |
