Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

Dear John,

I spent this district work period in IL-05, meeting with residents like you and speaking out against the Trump administration. Here are three things I did on your behalf this week:

1. Spoke Out Against the Kidnapping of Mohsen Madawi

Donald Trump has committed many attacks on our democracy, but I want to talk about one from this week. On Monday, Mohsen Mahdawi, a Palestinian American green card holder and Columbia University student, arrived at an immigration office for his final interview to become a U.S. citizen. Instead, he was arrested by ICE. According to reports, ICE would not tell him where he was going or what would happen to him. To this day, he has not been charged with any crime. All because he spoke out against the war in Gaza.

"Disappearing" people who disagree with you happens in dictatorships, not democracies.

2. Met with Seniors in Barrington

On Monday, I visited with seniors at Garlands of Barrington and Greencastle of Barrington to take questions and learn about what concerns them the most. At a time when Social Security Administration staff are being fired and their offices are being closed, and Republicans are attacking Medicaid, it is all the more important that seniors know I am available to help them in any way I can. It is unacceptable for Donald Trump to target the benefits Americans have paid into for decades to fund tax cuts for billionaires. I'll fight him every step of the way.

I also had a great time speaking with students at Barrington High School on Monday. These talented students demonstrated a great passion for civics and public service, and I know they all have bright futures ahead of them.

3. Announced the Winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition

One of my favorite jobs every year is to host and select a winner of the Congressional Art Competition. Particularly during these difficult times, it is encouraging to spend time with the leaders of our future and see their incredible artistic talents on display. This year, along with our judges, we selected Kalyani Manjunadh from Barrington High School as our winner! Kalyani's piece is oil on canvas, titled "Child's Play." Kalyani's artwork will soon hang in the halls of Congress, where it will remain for the next year.
