Kilmar Abrego Garcia—a husband, a father, and a legal resident—was wrongfully deported by the Trump administration in clear defiance of a federal court order. Let me say that again: the courts ruled that Kilmar should stay. The administration ignored them and deported him anyway.

Not only is his wrongful deportation unjust to him and his family, but it’s in open defiance of our nation’s courts and a flagrant violation of our constitutional right to due process.

If a President can pick and choose which court orders to follow, what’s next? If a legal resident can be ripped from his home and loved ones despite court protection, who’s safe?

The Trump administration is ripping to shreds the foundations of our democracy. In our country, one of the underpinnings of our nation is that everyone is entitled to due process, citizen or not. This administration has disregarded all rights to freedom and due process.

It is all of our responsibility to speak out against this gross abuse of power. We must demand accountability.

Mr. Garcia must be brought home, and the Trump Administration must act now and ensure due process rights remain in place for all of us.
