Dear Jack,

I'm wishing the best for you and your family during this difficult time. Every week, I'll be sending you updates on what the COVID-19 situation looks like in Virginia, and the latest news on what we're doing to stop the spread and help those who are impacted by the virus.

Forward Virginia Update

As of today, Governor Northam has given Northern Virginia, including Loudoun and Prince William counties, the go-ahead to begin Phase 2 of the reopening process on Friday, June 12th. Under the Phase 2 guidelines, restaurants will be able to open for inside dining at 50% capacity, fitness centers will be able to open at 30% capacity, and the maximum number of people allowed in social gatherings will increase from 10 to 50. You can read more about the Phase 2 guidelines here.

K-12 Schools Reopening

Today, Governor Northam put out his plan for a phased reopening of K-12 Schools in the Commonwealth. The different phases will be:

Phase 1: special education programs and child care for working families

Phase 2: Phase One plus preschool through third grade students, English learners, and summer camps in school buildings

Phase 3: all students may receive in-person instruction as can be accommodated with strict social distancing measures in place, which may require alternative schedules that blend in-person and remote learning for students

Beyond Phase 3: divisions will resume “new-normal” operations under future guidance

You can read the full press release and explanation of the reopening process here.
