We can’t standby while Trump deports folks who are in this country
legally. Without due process, Trump has sent folks to horrendous prisons
in El Salvador.

One of those people is Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man from Maryland who has
been in our country legally for years. The Trump Administration has
already admitted Kilmar was deported by mistake but is refusing to get him
back to the U.S.

Trump is attacking immigrants, even openly ignoring Supreme Court rulings.

I’m a law professor, but you don’t need to be to understand that what
Trump is doing is BS. They are ignoring the Constitution. They are
ignoring our laws. It’s cruel, dangerous, and we are all at risk.

In the White House this week, Trump even told El Salavador’s president
“homegrowns are next.” New reporting shows that the Administration is
actively exploring a plan to detain U.S. citizens and send them to prisons
in El Salvador.

This is about more than immigration. This is about upholding the
constitution and showing that everyone, even a president, must follow the
law.

These are scary times. My message to immigrant and mixed-status families
is this: we see you, we understand how scary Trump’s actions are, and we
are going to fight like hell to protect you.

When I launched my campaign for governor, I talked about having the
backbone to take on anyone who tries to hurt Californians. That is what
this moment calls for.

As Trump defies the Constitution to implement his dangerous agenda, we
need leaders who will not back down from tough fights.

Our leaders cannot be silent—and I won’t be.

Immigrants are part of the fabric of our communities. We study with them,
we work with them, and we worship with them.

As governor, I’m going to stand up for every Californian’s ability to live
here and to thrive here.
