Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that he is nominating John Logue to be the next director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OhioEPA). If confirmed by the Ohio Senate, Logue will replace director Anne M. Vogel who was appointed as the U.S. EPA Region 5 administrator.
"John Logue is a strong leader with a proven track record of serving Ohioans and leading important agencies," said Governor DeWine. "I know John will continue the progress Ohio EPA has made during my administration protecting our air, land, and water."

Tressel visits OSU Spine Research Institute [ [link removed] ]
Lt. Governor Tressel visited The Ohio State University's Spine Research Institute to learn about the technological advancements in spinal cord injury treatment and prevention happening right here in Ohio.

The Ohio Department of Commerce [ [link removed] ] Division of State Fire Marshal [ [link removed] ] celebrated [ [link removed] ] 125 years of supporting the state’s fire service and protecting Ohioans’ lives, properties and communities from fire and other risks.
Governor DeWine joined Ohio State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon on the agency's Reynoldsburg campus for a special event to commemorate the anniversary. They were joined by Division staff, leadership from various Ohio fire departments, and community leaders.
“For 125 years, the Ohio State Fire Marshal has played a critical role in ensuring the safety of all Ohioans,” said Governor DeWine. “Whether it’s through the investigation of fire-related incidents or visiting schools to provide essential fire prevention education to our state’s youth, the Fire Marshal Office’s work has been vitally important to the security and safety of Ohioans.”

Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen D. Dackin announced [ [link removed] ] that 367 Ohio schools are receiving the Purple Star designation [ [link removed] ] as part of the Class of 2025. The honor is given to schools that demonstrate a significant commitment to serving students and families connected to the nation’s armed forces.
“The Purple Star program is a wonderful way to showcase the many schools in Ohio that are going above and beyond to support their military communities,” said Governor DeWine. “It’s another example of how Ohio is a leader in caring for our military families. Year after year, our Purple Star schools put in the time and effort to make sure military-connected students have the support they need to thrive.”

As part of his ongoing work to promote career opportunities for Ohio students, Governor DeWine took part [ [link removed] ] in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the newly upgraded Southern Hills Career and Technical Center in Brown County.
“When we talk about helping every Ohioan live up to their full potential, part of that is making sure that all of our students have choices when it comes to their education,” said Governor DeWine. “By not only upgrading the labs and equipment at Southern Hills Career and Technical Center, but also expanding the capacity, we are going to give more of our students the chance to broaden their horizons, find something they’re passionate about, and turn that passion into a career.”

In honor of the life and service of Tri-Community Fire District Firefighter John Saunders, Governor DeWine ordered [ [link removed] ] that the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Huron County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower from Thursday until sunset on the day of his funeral.
All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.

Tressel tours University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College [ [link removed] ]
Lt. Governor Tressel brought together business, education, and community leaders from southeast Ohio for a roundtable discussion on the region’s workforce strengths and its needs.
Held at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College, the roundtable marked the latest stop in the Lt. Governor’s ongoing series of community conversations to inform the development of Ohio’s Workforce Playbook.
“As we continue to travel across Ohio, it is inspiring to see firsthand the incredible work being done to train and grow our workforce at places like the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College and beyond,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “This is an exciting moment in our state’s history. So many businesses and opportunities are moving into or expanding in Ohio. We need to make the most of this moment.”

Lt. Governor Tressel visited Ohio University for the grand opening of the Russ Research Opportunity Center, a new facility within the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. He toured the new facility with Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez, and then joined university leadership for the official opening.

Governor DeWine joined Senators Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted, Congressman Dave Taylor and Attorney General Dave Yost in Chillicothe following the announcement that Pixelle Specialty Solutions will be closing its paper mill at the end of this year.
