John,

Winters get cold in Vermont. Everyone knows that — even Donald Trump.

That’s why it should be a no-brainer to ensure people can afford to keep themselves warm.

But the Trump administration recently laid off the entire staff at the Department of Health and Human Services overseeing the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Let’s call this for what it is: A cruel and completely nonsensical decision.

LIHEAP is a lifeline for 26,000 Vermonters and millions more nationwide. The program helps people heat their homes in the winter without being forced to make the impossible choice between putting food on the table and staying warm.

The Trump administration’s decision to fire the entire staff overseeing the program is plain wrong, cruel, and emblematic of a larger problem that they don’t give a damn about anyone besides their billionaire friends.

While Trump and his far-right allies continue to prioritize billionaires over working families, I’m focused on speaking out against their attacks on Vermonters and vulnerable people across the country. If you can, chip in now to help amplify this message.
