A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
This week, I continued to sound the alarm about Republican-proposed plans that could dismantle critical government programs: Social Security and Medicaid. The facts are clear. The policies proposed by Donald Trump and pursued by his allies in Congress would lead to backdoor cuts to the benefits that Rhode Islanders have earned.

For nearly 90 years, Social Security has provided an earned benefit seniors, workers with disabilities, and millions of families. But today, it's under assault by Republican policies that have laid off staff, shuttered offices nationwide, and attempted to end phone services. Elon Musk has said, "Social Security is the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time," but in Rhode Island, we know better. There are 113,005 Social Security recipients in our district, including 6,732 children. I am committed to ensuring every Rhode Islander receives their hard-earned Social Security benefits promptly and without unnecessary stress or delay. I've also urged the Trump Administration to swiftly enact the Social Security Fairness Act — legislation that ensures that 7,600 Rhode Islanders, including teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants receive the full Social Security benefits they’ve earned.
CLICK HERE TO VIEW: Congressman Gabe Amo shares stories of Rhode Islanders with disabilities who would be devastated by Republican cuts to Medicaid.
Similarly, the budget resolution put forward by Republicans would open the door to the largest Medicaid cut in history. Medicaid isn’t just a government program — it’s a lifeline for more than 306,000 Rhode Islanders, including 1 in every 3 child and thousands of enrollees in who struggle with mental illness. That's why I'm fighting tooth and nail against Medicaid cuts that would strip health care for our most vulnerable neighbors.
I'm committed to protecting and expanding Social Security and Medicaid and defending against Republican policies that would gut access to hard-earned benefits. Rhode Islanders deserve essential health care and the ability to retire with dignity — I will not back down from this fight.
Sincerely, |
 |

Though the high cost of living remains challenging, Rhode Island has gradually raised the minimum wage.
However, at the federal level, the floor has stayed the same for than 15 years, just $7.25 an hour.
I am proud to cosponsor the Raise the Wage Act to increase the living standard of 22 million Americans. |

The Trump administration’s chaotic foreign aid freeze forced Rhode Island-based Edesia Nutrition to lay off staff and scale back production of lifesaving humanitarian aid.
In Congress, I am working across party lines to end the chaos and support their mission to save children from famine and starvation. |

Thank you to the American Coalition for Ukraine for your continued advocacy of American support for Ukraine's war effort.
In Congress, I have been proud to stand up for democracy and the international rule of law by voting for sanctions and delivering humanitarian and military aid to oppose Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion. |

As Trump's policies cut programs that Veterans rely on, I met with the Military Officers Association of America to discuss how Congress should:
- Invest in better housing for servicemembers.
- End long wait times to access health care for Veterans.
- Expand job opportunities for military families.

Every day in Congress, I work to support job creators with policy that makes it easier for them to succeed. I appreciated speaking with so many energized local entrepreneurs at the 2025 Impact Business Showcase.
Whether it is delicious food or innovative technology, our state thrives when Rhode Islanders can take the leap and launch their business. |
