Friend,

The daily flood of shameless corruption, cruelty, and stupidity from Donald Trump’s White House seems endless.

But what happened in the Oval Office on Monday was especially horrific, even by Trump standards.

That’s when Trump met with the brutal authoritarian president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, and openly urged him to expand his notorious torture prison complex to allow Trump to deport “home growns” — aka American citizens — as he sees fit.

“You gotta build about five more [prisons],” Trump told Bukele. “It’s not big enough.”

He’s already doing it to legal U.S. residents. Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, the Maryland father who was deported to Bukele’s gulag with zero due process in defiance of a federal court order, is just one of a growing number of innocent, legal residents targeted by Trump’s mass deportation goons.

Friends, we’re in serious trouble. It’s clear where Trump is headed, and no one is coming to save us. Not the courts, not the Democrats, not Big Law, or Harvard University. It’s up to us — all of us.

The team here at Common Dreams works day and night to report on this wave of autocratic lawlessness — not just so you can be outraged, but so you can prepare to fight back. At our best, we are connecting the dots to reveal Trump’s real authoritarian agenda: to remove all checks on his power while enriching himself and his fascist billionaire backers.

Everything we do is impossible without the support of readers, so if you’re with us, please donate whatever you can afford – $7, $27, $50, or $200 — to help power Common Dreams in our work to help beat back the forces of fascism. ([link removed])
