Yesterday, some of my fellow Parkland survivors lived through a mass shooting — again.
They survived the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018. Now, as students at Florida State University, they were once again forced to barricade classrooms, silence their phones, and text their loved ones just in case.
I know that fear. I’ve lived it. And no one should have to live through it once, let alone twice.
This hits painfully close to home. March For Our Lives was born in the aftermath of Parkland. For seven years, we’ve fought to stop this cycle of violence and trauma. But here we are again.
I’m tired of writing messages like this. I’m tired of watching history repeat itself. And I’m furious at the politicians who allow it to happen — who choose gun lobby money over our lives.
Let’s be clear: this shooting was preventable.
Just last month, lawmakers in the Florida House voted to lower the age to buy a gun — attempting to roll back the very law passed after Parkland to keep us safer.
Classrooms should be places of learning, not lockdowns. And until that’s a reality, we will not stop. We owe it to every survivor, every victim, and every student just trying to live.
