Over the past two weeks, people across the country have taken to the streets to stand against racial injustices in the fight to bring transformative change to police policy.

For many, the death of George Floyd and countless others is not an unseen experience -- it's a horrific reality that Black communities face across the country. And after the death of Elijah McClain in Aurora, Jason got to work months ago bringing civil rights and police reform to Congress.

As this movement spread across the world, Jason put action to his words and fast-tracked his bill -- now named the George Floyd Law Enforcement Trust and Integrity Act. It is now part of the largest overhaul of the country's policing laws in decades -- the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 -- which will:

• Create law enforcement development and training programs to develop best practices and require the creation of law enforcement accreditation standard recommendations based on President Obama's Task Force on 21st Century policing;
• Ban the use of chokeholds, like the one that killed George Floyd;
• Create a national registry to track police misconduct and abuse;
• Enact other structural changes.
