Dear John,
The National Rifle Association (NRA) is currently a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. In return for tax-exemption, it’s supposed to operate in the public interest. But it's a widely accepted fact that the NRA works almost exclusively to make the gun industry rich — at the expense of our safety from gun violence.
Case in point: To date, Mitch McConnell has received more than $1.2 million in campaign contributions from the NRA — and he repays them by letting every single bipartisan common-sense gun safety bill die in his legislative graveyard.
We’re calling on the IRS to conduct a thorough investigation into the NRA. If the IRS finds what we suspect — that the NRA is abusing its tax-exempt status to churn profits for the gun industry — then we demand that the NRA’s tax-exempt status be immediately revoked.
John, we need 100,000 signatures on our petition to challenge the NRA’s tax-exempt status. Can you add your name today?

Here’s what would be in the public’s best interest: Universal background checks. An assault weapons ban. Reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). But these are ALL examples of the lifesaving legislation that the NRA has repeatedly fought to block — using its “tax-exempt” funds. And don't forget: Even the majority of the NRA’s own members support background checks.
It’s crystal clear that the NRA is only operating on behalf of the gun industry, not for gun owners and certainly not for the safety of the general public. That’s not what a nonprofit organization is supposed to do.
John, we need to show the NRA that it’s not above the law. That’s why we’re delivering 100,000 petition signatures directly to the IRS. Add your name to our petition to the IRS to challenge the NRA’s tax-exempt status.
