Protect Our Oceans and Bays from Trump’s Policies

Dear Neighbor,

The Trump Administration has launched a barrage of unprecedented attacks, including illegal staff firings and funding cuts at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also known as NOAA – the scientific and regulatory agency responsible for forecasting weather, surveying the ocean, monitoring the atmosphere, managing fishing and the protection of marine mammals species in American waters.

Trump, Elon Musk, and DOGE are already coming for NOAA with cuts and funding freezes that will significantly hamper the agency’s ability to function. These cuts threaten the safety of all New Jerseyans, undercut our commercial and recreational fishing industry, and harm the coastal ecosystems that our state’s tourism economy relies upon. They also cripple NOAA’s ability to issue timely and accurate storm forecasts, which is increasingly important as we approach another potentially dangerous Hurricane Season this summer. I will not stand idly by as Trump threatens NOAA’s mission and the jobs of hundreds of New Jerseyans who work at NOAA as federal employees, contractors, and academic partners, including those at the Howard Lab in Sandy Hook.

I also wrote a letter this week with Democratic Members of New Jersey’s Congressional Delegation to Trump’s Commerce Secretary urging him to release funding for important programs that are essential NOAA’s mission. We emphasized that sabotaging NOAA will permanently damage the agency, hurt New Jersey families, and cause significant damage to coastal communities.

Protecting Social Security

Your Social Security benefits could be at risk and it’s all because of Donald Trump. He and Elon Musk have already fired thousands of Social Security employees, broken the agency’s website, closed field offices, and made it more difficult for many seniors to get their benefits – all so they can give tax cuts to billionaires.

Seniors work all their lives and pay into Social Security so they can retire in dignity. They’re not taking advantage of the system. Elon Musk went as far as calling Social Security a “Ponzi scheme”. I’m fighting back to stop these cuts and make sure Social Security is here to stay. If anything, I want to make it better.

The INFANTS Act

This week I reintroduced the INFANTS Act – legislation that would require infant formula and baby food to be tested for toxic heavy metals and harmful bacteria. This will help protect babies from harmful toxins in formula and food amid Trump’s dangerous deregulation agenda. Right now, baby food and formula don’t have to be tested for toxic metals like lead and mercury which is unacceptable. We cannot trust companies to police themselves—especially when Trump is making it easier for them to cut corners by decimating staffing in our public health regulatory agencies.

Parents shouldn’t have to worry that what’s being sold as nutritious could harm their child. My bill gives FDA the tools to protect kids and prevent future formula shortages. I won’t let Trump’s caving to corporate interests undercut basic safety standards for America’s infants.

Our Frontline Heroes

Firefighters are our frontline heroes, risking their lives daily to protect our communities, but the Trump administration's policies have caused unnecessary financial hardship for local fire departments and made it harder for them to do their jobs. The Trump administration is hollowing out the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and leaving fire departments across New Jersey without the federal funding they were promised.

In one Central Jersey town, firefighters weren’t reimbursed for more than three months creating a six-figure hole in the department’s budget because they never received funds they were promised through a SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant. I’m pushing for an immediate fix and surveying fire departments across the district to determine the impact of these harmful policies. I’ll keep fighting to make sure our first responders get every dollar they’ve earned.
