Friend: Imagine being confined to living in a dark, hot, filthy space with no windows or fresh air. Now, imagine your most basic needs ignored. Conditions like these, and worse, are what countless animals in roadside zoos and wild animal petting zoos are facing today. The evidence is clear: Roadside zoos, circuses and wild animal petting zoos keep putting profits over the welfare of vulnerable animals, showing little to no regard for the animals in their care. We’ve seen this with SeaQuest, a chain of shopping mall-based indoor wild animal petting zoos, that failed to provide proper veterinary care to animals, created a stressful, chaotic environment and even allowed animals to be stomped to death by customers!

And while the Animal Welfare Act exists to ensure animal cruelty like this doesn’t occur at facilities regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it’s still not enough to hold violators accountable.
