Good Friday School Reminder! |
As you celebrate Easter week, we want to remind you that Texas law protects your religious freedom at school and Texas Values is constantly fighting on your behalf to safeguard your First Amendment rights. Texas law requires that schools provide an "excused" absence for students that observe a religious holy day, like Good Friday. Texas law does not say that a child must attend a specific religious event. Texas Education Code 25.087 (b) (1) (A) states that: b) a school district shall excuse a student from attending school for: (1) the following purposes, including travel for those purposes: (A) observing religious holy days;
If your student chooses to observe Good Friday and not attend school, the school district must excuse the absence. And Texas law has no requirement that students must provide “documentation” of how they observed the religious holiday. Read more about your religious freedom rights on our blog post.

Special Guest Bishop Charles Flowers, Pastor of Faith Outreach Center International, Discusses School Choice and Easter Week with Host Jonathan Saenz, President & Attorney for Texas Values.
| "Because of the School Choice Bill passing...now because the money is following the child...Christian schools will begin to pop up again so we're thankful for that. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…we’re starting to move as a nation now, back into those parameters that facilitate the blessings of the Lord.
Take a look at the difference between what happened under the previous presidential administration during this season of the year…there was a courtyard full of LGBT topless people…and declaring 'Transgender Visibility Day.'
I would encourage people who are sitting on the fence thinking about whether I should go (to church) YES, find somewhere, go somewhere and let God touch your heart and life this weekend." ~ Bishop Charles Flowers
His segment is available to view on our YouTube Channel and our Facebook page.
