Dear John, This evening, from places of worship to campus greens, from town squares to street corners, from lighthouses to apartment windows, people from across the country will be ringing bells — large, small, and everything in between — to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s brave stand against tyranny and raise a collective call to protect our democracy. This inaugural event, Let Freedom Ring!, is a powerful way for all of us to take a symbolic stand against tyranny, past and present. After ringing your bells (between 3:00-6:00 local time), tune-in at 7:00 p.m. ET to watch the 250th anniversary Lantern Service at Boston’s Old North Church — the very place where the “two if by sea” signal from the church’s steeple marked the beginning of the American Revolution — featuring a keynote address by renowned historian and author Heather Cox Richardson.
