For the past two weeks, protesters from all walks of life have taken to the streets of America to demand an end to anti-Black police violence, and their efforts are bringing real change to our communities. But they need your support to keep up the fight. Color of Change’s #ProtectTheProtester campaign ensures protesters have the supplies they need to protect themselves from COVID-19 and the repressive tactics of the police.
So far, we've been able to:
- Drive hundreds of phone calls to District Attorneys’s offices in Minnesota, New York, and Ohio, demanding the release of the protesters.
- Host a digital training with the BlackOUT Collective, viewed by 15,000 members where we talked about the basics of direct action, including physical and technological safety, and answered some frequently asked questions for new protesters.
- Fast-track thousands of gloves, masks, bottled water and snacks to folks who are marching and strategizing on the ground.

The racist killings of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd are just the latest tragedies in an American tradition of state-sanctioned violence on Black communities that has persisted for centuries. As we speak, scores of people from across the country are being detained by District Attorneys’s offices for demanding an end to the murder of Black people by police once and for all. Their efforts have been met with billy clubs and tear gas—not to mention, the looming threat of COVD-19. Still, they have soldiered on.
Night after night, protesters are transforming their sorrow and rage into collective action, even in the midst of a pandemic. In response, officers are apprehending and jailing them in overcrowded conditions, without masks or gloves. These conditions violate the basic human rights of the protesters and make social distancing impossible—a cruel and unusual punishment that will result in countless new cases of COVD-19 in our most vulnerable communities. In response, Color of Change is doing what we can to support folks on the ground risking their safety to demand dignity and justice for Black people. This fight is far from over. But as long as our people are taking to the streets to demand justice, Color of Change will be there to support them. Will you stand with us?
