A weekly compilation of the most important developments in the struggle against radical ideologies

A Word From the CEO
-------------------

Dear Reader,

Over the past few weeks, violent extremism in the United States has surfaced in alarming ways, underscoring the urgent need to address ideologically driven threats. An Albuquerque man faces federal charges for arson attacks on a Tesla dealership and a Republican Party office, while a Pennsylvania man was charged for threatening to assassinate President Trump and other officials. In Wisconsin, a teen’s alleged murder of family members to fund a neo-Nazi-inspired plot against the president reveals the deadly impact of online radicalization, amplified by international extremist ties.

Foreign influence operations have also raised concerns, with Iranian nationals charged for conspiring to supply U.S. technology to the IRGC for military drones, violating sanctions. Social media platforms like TikTok remain focal points, as a failed U.S. divestiture deal amid China’s trade war tactics and school shooting threats posted in Illinois and Florida highlight the intersection of global and local risks. These incidents emphasize the importance of sustained vigilance and coordinated efforts across law enforcement and communities to counter these multifaceted threats.

Sincerely,

*TikTok Deal Becomes Trade War Casualty*
----------------------------------------

*

A finalized deal to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations to American investors, including Oracle, collapsed after China halted approval, linking it to negotiations over President Trump’s escalating trade tariffs.

*

Trump imposed a 34 percent tariff on Chinese imports, on top of existing 20 percent tariffs, prompting China to retaliate with matching tariffs and restrictions on rare earth exports, derailing the TikTok agreement as Beijing demanded broader trade talks.

*

The deal, initially set to keep TikTok operational in the U.S. under American control, was seen as a political priority for Trump, who extended the divestiture deadline by 75 days to June 19, 2025, to avoid a ban, citing national security and economic leverage.

*

Despite the push to “save TikTok,” critics, including Republican lawmakers, expressed concerns over Chinese Communist Party access to U.S. user data, with the deal’s failure highlighting tensions between national security and trade negotiations. “It  [Freedom] is not solitary, unconnected, individual, selfish liberty, as if every man was to regulate the whole of his conduct by his own will. The liberty I mean is social freedom. It is that state of things in which liberty is secured by the equality of restraint.”
