Imagine being trapped in your own home. I was…

Friend,
Imagine if you had to wait 12 hours for a glass of water…
Imagine if you were trapped in your own home for months… even
years…
Imagine how it feels to drive your car down the road with a check
engine light on, and it’s making a strange sound, and you’re
pretty sure it’s going to break down soon…
But instead of being able to go to the mechanic half a mile down the
road to get it fixed, you need to file paperwork to request permission
from the insurance company, and it could take up to six months for
them to respond… And they can just say NO.
Imagine you had to go through this insane process every six months
because your vehicle isn’t designed for the trips you need it to
make, and you have no way to afford a better vehicle except through
what insurance is willing to pay for… and they can just say NO!
This wasn’t a passing thought of mine.
This was my reality.
And it still is the reality of so many others.
My name is Thomas Quiter, founder of the Mobility Independence
Foundation (MIF). I was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and have
required the use of a wheelchair for my entire life.
Here’s what most people don’t understand — government
regulations are standing in the way of people who can’t stand for
themselves accessing the mobility technology they need to access the
world around them just like you.
All joking aside, I founded MIF to revolutionize and deregulate
mobility technology so we can provide impactful mobility solutions to
those who need it most.
Government regulations have trapped too many people in their own
homes. Could you donate $10, $35, $50, or even $100 to help the
Mobility Independence Foundation expose these inhumane policies?

Imagine what someone like me has to go through because our own
government is interfering with our ability to access mobility devices.
WHEN I WAS TOLD I SHOULD DISCARD A $65,000 CUSTOM WHEELCHAIR OVER A
2-INCH PART, IT MADE ME REALIZE WHY OPEN-SOURCE MOBILITY EQUIPMENT IS
THE NEXT STEP IN THE INDUSTRY.
Currently, the FDA considers wheelchairs the same as a prescription,
and people are told they cannot modify or repair them.
_Not only that…_
Because of the “in-the-home rule,” insurance companies are only
required to provide mobility equipment for “daily living,” which
means it must be able to handle the trip from your bedroom to your
bathroom. That’s it!
_IMAGINE THE GOVERNMENT TELLING YOU THAT YOU DON’T NEED TO GO
OUTSIDE OR EVEN AROUND YOUR ENTIRE HOME, AND THAT’S CONSIDERED A
FULL LIFE! _
Our local communities are far more capable of supporting each other as
neighbors than the bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., ever will be.
This is why our mission is to use open-source hardware rather than
relying on government programs.
Under open source hardware:
* People have the right to repair
* We don’t have to fight IP laws
* Communities can produce equipment themselves
* Nobody will be forgotten, trapped in their own homes!
This means everybody wins.

Imagine if everybody had the opportunity to live an active and
purpose-driven life…
That is what I am fighting for.
Thank you for helping us to get one step closer to everyone living the
American Dream.
