Dear Mr. xxxxxx,
The 119th Congress is well underway, and I’m keeping Montana ag at the forefront of my fight in Washington. One of my top priorities at the beginning of this year was to confirm President Trump’s cabinet and nominations for other key positions that will support Montana farmers, ranchers and producers. Under Majority Leader John Thune’s leadership, the Senate has confirmed all 15 of President Trump’s cabinet secretaries and many others at breakneck speed. I was pleased to vote in favor these qualified nominees including:
- Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins: As a former FFA student and lifelong advocate for farmers and ranchers, Secretary Rollins will be a champion for rural America. I look forward to working with her to cut red tape and help Montana agriculture thrive.
- Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum: Secretary Burgum will bring common sense back to the Department of the Interior and help advance important priorities like delisting the grizzly bear, responsible energy development and rolling back burdensome regulations.
- United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer: Ambassador Greer committed to working swiftly to secure market access in key foreign markets for Montana’s farmers and ranchers. I look forward to working with him to improve market access for Montana ag around the world.
I’m also focused on making the 2017 tax cuts permanent and avoiding a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. I led a letter to President Trump with several of my colleges stating that I will not support a tax bill that does not do so. I also recently helped introduce the Death Tax Repeal Act, which would end the punitive federal estate tax and help keep family farms and ranches in family hands. Finally, I’d like to remind you that the USDA announced that farmers and ranchers can begin to apply with their local FSA for Emergency Commodity Assistance Program relief payments that were signed into law as part of the American Relief Act at the end of last year. You can find more information about this program HERE. Secretary Rollins also recently announced her picks to lead the FSA as well as NRCS and RMA at the national level. I look forward to working them to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and getting hardworking Montanans the assistance they deserve.
Montana Proud,
Senator Steve Daines
