On March 25, Lelo was detained by ICE while driving his partner to her workplace. As of April 16, Lelo remains in detention at the NW ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, WA.
GGJ member Community to Community (C2C) is working with his legal representation to demand his release and says:
Lelo’s experience is part of a pattern of violence in our farmworker communities. The farmworker movement is strong, and we are being targeted because we are creating positive structural change in the working conditions of our food system.
C2C is expecting and preparing for further actions. Please watch our channels for further opportunities for solidarity and support.

We are facing difficult challenges in this time period. We know the answer is to come together in community to care and defend one another. As Aurora Levins Morales says, “solidarity is the answer to scarcity. Like most forms of love, it expands when shared.”
