I filed an amicus brief challenging this administration’s harmful changes to the Social Security Administration.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk have caused massive delays and disruptions at the Social Security Administration (SSA) that have prevented Californians and people across the country from being able to access critical benefits.
That’s why I joined a coalition of attorneys general to file an amicus brief challenging their attack on our seniors and people with disabilities.
The administration's reckless policy changes and budget cuts have resulted in staff layoffs, closed field offices, and the illegal shutdown of departments – making it harder (at times impossible) for the SSA to provide lifesaving benefits and services to the 6 million Californians who count on them.
Those calling to check on their benefits now have to wait about 50% longer to speak with an SSA representative over the phone than they did last year. Since Trump and Musk took power, the SSA website has suffered multiple crashes.
To make matters worse, the administration just announced they’re making X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, the SSA’s primary method of public communication, even though the majority of seniors do not use social media and many lack access to broadband internet at all.
Social Security is a sacred promise we have made to our seniors and people with disabilities – these chaotic delays and disruptions are completely unacceptable.
