It has been nearly 15 years since BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill – one of the worst in U.S. history. Rather than learning from the past, President Trump has decided to re-open millions of acres of our oceans for offshore oil drilling, putting coastal communities and marine wildlife in danger.

Earthjustice is taking him to court.

Trump tried this during his first administration, too. We sued and stopped him then. Now, with our partners and with the support of people like you, we’re doing it again.

In honor of Earth Day, your gift will be matched $2:$1 to help us take on these critical legal battles.

[TRIPLE YOUR IMPACT] : [link removed]?

The 15th anniversary of BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill is a painful reminder of what is at stake in this fight. The tragic event killed 11 people and wreaked havoc on an entire region, releasing 134 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Deepwater Horizon wiped out multitudes of fish, birds, sea turtles, dolphins, whales, and other marine life. It also devastated local economies, eliminating 25,000 jobs in the Gulf region and ultimately costing $17.2 billion in environmental damage.

Earthjustice has spent years fighting the reckless sale of our oceans to the highest bidder because we know that every U.S. oil spill starts with a lease sale. Allowing any expansion of offshore leasing and development threatens the millions of people who live along U.S. coasts, thousands of businesses, and invaluable ecosystems that are integral to marine wildlife and humans alike.

This is why our lawsuit against the current Trump administration is so important – and why we are asking for your support today

Earthjustice’s 200+ attorneys represent our clients free of charge, so your support funds every lawsuit we file. There has never been a better time to get involved. Join the fight today and you will triple your impact. Your gift will be matched $2:$1 by the Earthjustice Board of Trustees, or $3:$1 if you make a monthly gift.

[TRIPLE YOUR IMPACT] [link removed]?

This administration is proving to be relentless in its attacks on the environment and all we hold dear. But so are we in our pursuit of a healthy environment for all. And we will not back down.

This administration is attempting to accelerate the drilling that will deepen our country’s dependence on fossil fuels, gut the regulations that protect clean air and water and keep toxic chemicals out of our bodies, and weaken the courts and government bodies that we all depend on. At every turn, we will be there to hold the line.

We truly could not do this work without your support. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Sincerely,

Steve Mashuda
