Hi John,

Last week, we hosted our first-ever virtual luncheon. We held the event with heavy hearts as we mourn the loss of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other Black lives and as we confront the racist system that incited their murders.

Our goal at the Alliance is to end the crisis of gun violence in our communities. Our vision is a world free from violence. We cannot achieve that goal or realize that vision without acknowledging that the history of gun violence and gun laws in America is completely intertwined with white supremacy and structural racism.

We know that fighting to end gun violence must also include fighting to root out the racism and injustice that is stitched into the fabric of our country. I shared a statement about our commitment to that fight at the start of our luncheon. You can read in full here:

The intersection of structural racism and gun violence was also at the heart of our informative and emotional panel discussion. We are so grateful to Governor Inslee, Representative Jayapal, Manny and Patricia Oliver, and Wier Harman for taking the time to share their experiences and expertise with us during such a difficult moment. You can watch a recording of the event here:

The challenges ahead are immense. We have so much work to do to create a world where everyone can breathe, run, sleep, and live free from the threat of gun violence. We are committed to fighting every step of the way. We are more grateful than ever for the support of our community.

With endless gratitude,
Renee
