Folks,

My office has received hundreds upon hundreds of calls in the past week about the SAVE Act – the bill coming to the Senate that House Republicans passed to make it harder for MILLIONS of Americans to vote.

This bill would require you to show proof of U.S. citizenship – such as a passport or a birth certificate – in person when registering to vote or updating your voter registration.

Did you know that 146 million American citizens don’t own a passport? Or that tens of millions of spouses won’t be able to vote if they changed their name on their ID and it doesn’t match their birth certificate? And that nearly 60 million rural residents would have to drive far from their homes just to become eligible to vote?

Republicans can claim that this bill is to “combat voting fraud,” but we see it for what it really is: a transparent attack on voting rights and an assault on our democracy.

So let me be clear: when the SAVE Act comes up in the Senate, I will vote no.

I’ll do whatever is necessary to stop this bill and protect every eligible voter’s fundamental right to access the ballot box.

This bill is an unfortunate reminder that we MUST take back the Senate next year – so a Democratic majority can stop Republicans from rolling back our fundamental rights and serve as an important check on Trump’s reckless agenda.
