John,
This is breaking: multiple people have been hospitalized after a shooting
at Florida State University.
This is the second time that there has been a school shooting on Florida
State University’s campus.
And this comes just after a shooter opened fire at Wilmer-Hutchins High
School sending four students to the hospital yesterday. Their condition is
still unknown.
This is the second shooting incident in almost a year at Wilmer-Hutchins
High School.
As Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde said during a news conference, “Quite
frankly, this is becoming way too familiar, and it should not be
familiar.”
Not only are students being attacked in places that are supposed to be
safe, they’re facing the same danger and tragedy repeatedly.
This is more than just one college in Florida or one high school in
Dallas.
This is a crisis that is injuring and killing people across the country
every single day, and it’s happening at the same places over and over
again.
* Gun violence is the #1 killer of kids in this country.
* Every year 45,000 lives are taken due to gun violence.
* 1 in 15 American adults have been at the scene of a mass shooting.
These statistics are not normal. This is an epidemic that demands action.
We say: Not one more time at Florida State University. Not one more time
at Wilmer-Hutchins High School. Not one more high school. Not one more
kid. Not one more shooting. Not one more life lost.
We will never forget what we’re fighting for. We will not rest until all
students at all schools are safe.
Our hearts go out to all those affected at Florida State University and at
Wilmer-Hutchins High School.
In solidarity,
March For Our Lives
