If Passover teaches us anything, it’s that the battle for freedom is neither short nor easy. Our ancestors didn’t give up in ancient times – and J Street certainly won’t today.
Our generation’s struggle isn’t against the pharaohs of the past but the wannabe autocrats of today: President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
They’re two sides of the same authoritarian coin: Scapegoating minorities. Consolidating power in their loyalists. Trashing free speech and the press. Claiming to speak in our names.

In this pivotal moment, J Street has been:
- Working with Members of Congress like Vermont’s Becca Balint to mobilize lawmakers to stand up for students wrongfully detained by the Trump Administration;
- Organizing rabbis to denounce using antisemitism as a pretext for attacking our democracy;
- Filing an amicus brief with other Jewish organizations on behalf of Rumeysa Ozturk, the Tufts student arrested by ICE in front of her home;
- Making the case in the media that Trump and the MAGA right don’t speak for us when it comes to antisemitism.
We’ll continue to beat the drum. We’re not going to let Trump and Musk dismantle our country or let Netanyahu tear Israel apart while abandoning the remaining 59 hostages.
J Street will never sacrifice our core liberal and democratic values or bow to wannabe autocrats, hoping they’ll spare us from their assault. We know that freedom, equality and democracy make us stronger, not weaker.
To sustain our advocacy against the Trump/Netanyahu agenda in the weeks, months and years ahead, we’ve set an ambitious target. Since my colleague Adee first reached out last week, we’ve seen some incredible support, but we’re not there yet.
